Founded in 1852, Washington University is an independent, non-denominational university. Washington University's suburban campus is seven miles west of downtown St. Louis and the river front.

Washington University offers undergraduate programs in five academic divisions: the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Architecture, the School of Art, John M. Olin School of Business, and the School of Engineering and Applied Science. Students can choose annually from 1,600 courses and more than 80 majors or can create their own major.
